"reform movements in the US sought to expand democratic ideals" DBQ

this is a DBQ for the years 1825-1850 due for my history class in a few days..not really urgent just wondering if anyone can help

I've researched the types of reform (women's rights, public education, religious reform, temperance, treatment of criminals and insane, peace movement and abolitionism) I'm just having trouble connecting these with the "democratic ideals"

thanks

Ok, step one: which democratic ideals are you attempting are you trying to identify them with?

I don't really know..probably like "all men are created equal"????

it just says "democratic ideals," and the documents aren't much help as to which ideals

Democratic ideals were expanded by the educational reform by Horace Mann as well as the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, and the treatment of the mentally ill and prisons. Democratic Ideals were hampered by Nativists, the Temperance movement, and supporters of slavery, too.

Oh, fun. We just did this in class a couple of days ago. Sucked arse, but watever.

Ok. Women's Rights movement shows democratic ideals because it shows that the people have a voice and the government itself can't do anything to impede it. Religious reforms shows that people have the right to their own chosen religion. Public education demonstrates the public's power in governing and maintaining their own society. And abolitionist movements shows...stuff. Er...well, if you're in this class, I'm guessing you should know about this.
The arguing issue would be temperance, where they're are taking away some people's rights of drinking and choosing how to live their own life.
And then conclude. Yosh!

blahhh
