To what extent did the natural enviroment shape the developmnt of the West beyond the Mississippi and the lives of those who lived and settled there? How important were other factors? Time Period: 1840's to 1890's

Here's the deal: I didn't pay all that much attention to this class, hence my 2. But I have this nice, only been opened twice, year old, AP test prep book and I will look up some stuff for you. I'll try and reply by tomorrow.

That would be great. Thank You. Yeah, unfortunately I know how that is, too. I took the AP Euro Class and Exam and didn't do to well to say the least due to my laziness and lack of reading. I think I learned my lesson so hopefully I will do better on this APUSH Exam in May.

Lazy arse. But doesn't it seem obvious? Mountains, plains, the weather, and river systems. Thing about it. Try to connect that with how lives are affected by their environment. Such as the city that 'flourished' overnight because of the sudden Gold Rush. =P. Cities popped out of nowhere because people flocked towards areas that were rumours to have gold in it. You know how people are greedy. :p

Mae is right...most of it is common sense. Most of it is geographical and it affected travel, agriculture, city layouts, etc.
There were other factors too (obviously since it says so in the question). There was the question of slavery in the new states which meant new ways of living for some people. There was the fact that the Spanish were right across the border, although Florida natives were probably familiar with that. There was also the problem of Indians (or American Indians might be the PC term...I'm not sure). And of course, as Mae pointed out, Gold. People would do anything for gold.
