Nationalism

Hey guys, I have to do this project on nationalism. Does anyone have any suggestions on how "embargo contributed to a greater sense of nationalism"? I basically understand the rest of the roject, but this one question is stumping me...

You mean any embargo in general or a specific one?

After the Chesapeake Incident, Thomas Jefferson cut off all trade from France and Great Britian. He suspected that this would hurt the two countries, making them unable to get raw materials, and that it would unite us by forcing us to only trade within our own country. In 1809, the act was lifted, as it hurt American merchants.
