Need Notes?
While we strive to provide the most comprehensive notes for as many high school textbooks as possible, there are certainly going to be some that we miss. Drop us a note and let us know which textbooks you need. Be sure to include which edition of the textbook you are using! If we see enough demand, we'll do whatever we can to get those notes up on the site for you!
Only reason that I can see is because it was a free state.

I thought they didn't want to please the free-soilers. That's why they made the Lecompton Constitution. The people had to vote for the constitution "with slavery" or "without slavery," instead of "for" or "against" the constitution. Therefore, the constitution was passed even if the free-soilers voted against slavery, and the constitution protected the slave owners already living there. So there would be slavery in Kansas no matter what.
So actually the pro-slavery people tried to trick the free-soilers...and the free-soilers boycotted the polls because they were pissed at it.
to get votes
I dug deep into the internet to find an answer to my question. I eventually found something, but I don't know if it is correct. My answer was that they wanted to please the free soilers by giving them land grants if they voted. It was a trick. The free soilers were made to think that the voting was either on a large land grant or a reduced land grant when in reality, behind the land grant cover, they were voting for either slaves or no slaves in Kansas. I had to answer this question last week. Thanks for your help though.
Thanks for posting what you found :D
