whoa, I don't think I've heard of so many bands at once...do you have ANY free time? Like I said, no orchestra at our school, so not really a place for me. I do belong to a huge group outside of school playing Scottish/Celtic fiddle. It's called the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers...you can check us out at http://www.sfscottishfiddlers.org/ It's awesome that you can find time to play all that music & I envy you for sure.

Well thanks. The commitment isn't too bad... marching and pep bands are seasonal (marching in fall and pep in winter) so they don't conflict, and jazz band and orchestra/wind ensemble meet during the school day. But yeah, it makes for some hectic practicing... esp. considering I'm taking private lessons from a top jazz improv player in the city, so he expects a lot. Anyway, that's really cool that you're in that scottish fiddlers group... the website looks really cool.

Again, I bow down to your greatness as a band geek :) Are you planning on having a career in music after high school or going to a college w/ an awesome music program or anything?

Hopefully. I'm not really sure where I want to go or what I want to do as of now, but I definitely want to continue in music.

Wow, I guess I missed some stuff huh.

It's cool how you're in those bands Zweibz. I wish that I could be in my school's Jazz Ensemble or the Gospel Choir or something music related after school, but I got classes twenty-five minutes away at the same time as the practice. I can't wait until college when I'm already on campus so I can be in several groups. That fiddle group sounds awesome too. I'd love to hear it in person. Celtic and Scottish music rocks.

About the sight-reading thing, I'm pretty good at sight reading basically for the same reason I'm good at vocabulary: procrastination. Don't practice all week and yet your teacher expects progress, or at least that you can play the piece. So I got good at it fast. But I prefer to memorize my music. It lets me be more...passionate I guess is a good word. Plus then you don't have to turn the pages. I hate turning pages.
