okay guys, I cannot find anything on the Manifest Destiny that we are studying right now in ap his. class. we use the american pageant books which are helpful, but nothing about this..any info or links would be great! thanks ;)

manifest destiny is the basic thought of moving and expanding westward, from sea to shining sea. it is the idea that god wants the united states to expand. try wikopedia.

hey ry_leigh, manifest destiny, sorry by the way if you already know this, is the belief that the "Americans" should colonize and fill up all territory extending from Atlantic to Pacific Oceans. This is why we built things like the Oregon Trail and had the Lewis and Clark expedition. The gold rush also contributed to manifest destiny. Many people were drawn to California, which is why it was one of the first western coast states. It's also because of manifest destiny that we agrred to the Missouri Compromise and bargained with Britain and others for countless pieces of "American" territory. I also use American Pageant. No worries...lostinhistory wioll save the day...*heroic music plays in background*...:p I hope this helped. If not, try googling "manifest destiny", you'll get oodles of stuff on it. Good luck!

Something fairly interesting having to do with manifest destiny is the Donner Party - if you look that up it will give you a lot of info. about them and of manifest destiny and the conditions of moving west
