Shallow as this may be I have to know - what causes the regression to early adolesent behavior when men are around a redhead? Now mind you i am a natural redhead and proud of it (I was Jessica Rabbit for halloween this past year if that gives you any clue to my love being a redhead) so i am not by any means complaining- but my male friends all have a fetish and my boyfriend is absoultly mad about my coloring. Is this a common male "thing" or is it just a freak local epidemic?

Are you sure it's the hair and not....*cough* other things?
But other than that I haven't seen or heard anything like that before. The stereotype I was always heard about were guys chasing after blondes :p

haha well i dont know if its soley the hair as you pointed out ;) (at least with my boyfriend anyway) but apparently a suprising majority said that redheads are and I quote "lust inducing" (they really are nice guys - i just realized i made them sound like complete pigs and i regret that...) yet i just cant wrap my head around it - i always agreed with you that blondes were the skirts of choice to chase.....

No offense ment- but it's been a long-standing sterotype that redheads are lustful, sensous, etc. I think from the Puritan times? Dunno. Eithere that or some wierd attraction thingy. 'Though it seems that blondes are the attraction-getting ones where I'm from. Meh, they're guys. Who knows really?

No, it is not a local thing. I think part of it has to do with red not being that common of a hair color, especially natural red, plus it catches the eye very easily.
What wrote:...plus it catches the eye very easily.
Yeh, it does. One reason why I wish I was one....

I know feel Im one very lucky girl!
So "the men" have been mulling over my question for the past couple of days and have decided as a collective that just as What said "natural reds stand out more" but in addition to the unusual coloring what captivates their attention is the strong persona and confidence the redheads seem to have. they like the "unpredictablity of a girl who you can match wits with- both intellectually and romantically-especially if she is a redhead its just the icing on the cake."
Which leads me to wonder if a girl is has a very strong personality and just so happens to be a redhead does that make her automatically mroe attractive then if she was simply either a redhead or a strong personality?
And if so are, women who would be considered less attractive as a brunnette or blonde considered to be more appealling just because of their red hair? I know its exteamely simplistic to debate societies perception of beauty on the basis of hair color but still - couldnt it have a basis of truth at some level?

Yeah, I really think it does. About the strong personality going along with being a redhead- again, I thik that this is a sterotype that's evolved out of the fact that there aren't very many reddies and that they stand out. A lot of the redheads I know are very vocal, etc, since they've been dealing with comments about their hair for a while. That's why I think the image of a redhead and a strong-willed person go hand in hand.

Okay, I am a redhead and I have a very shy personality. But, I will say guys have told me that they my redhair and they feel it is more attractive because the coloring of a redhead is different. Typically, this also depends on genetics because I am part Irish, but typically redheads don't tan...and we know it so we don't try, we just look different than the average blonde or brunette. We seem I guess exotic to guys in a way. That is what I know from talking to guys who have found my hair to be my main attraction. It helps us stand out more than the hum drum sea of blonde and brunette. I like standing out with my red hair, but I don't use it as a tool...because I happily engaged and I won him over with my wits. =]! But yeah, from one red head to another.

And for that i am happy for you! Which brings me to write a small yet important disclaimer - shallow though i may be - for reading please dont take what i said as that i use my hair "as a tool" for attention, especially since I truly believe that while obviously you must have a physical chemisty and attraction - you must more inportantly connect emotionally and intellecutally with a person to honestly be in a good relationship. But "from one redhead to another" i am always happy for any insight into my slightly mad quest for answers...
