It's competition season in the world of HS theatre!
And with this in mind i was wondering if there were any other Actors that were out there ( or even going to Chatman or Shakespeare Festival in California) - We are doing a scene from Comedy of Errors and it has become a huge comedia del arte circus of a performance. But is's not my first choice - it made me wonder what would be the ultimate Shakespeare, or any playwrite for that matter play/character to perform?

I actually played her this past summer at our community theater - it was the most amazing rush to play a character of her magnitude....and we had an unsually amazing cast.

Here at SIUC they did a "modern" version of the Crucicible. Still the same story and lines and everything, but costumes and the set were deffiently modern. It was so incredibly political! Inbetween acts they had the people being accused of witches brought to the front of the stage, bags over their head, chained together, clothes torn, and started playing one of Bushes speeches about terror. The soldiers/police they used in the play were all dressed like Hitler's SS except they had American Flags on their sleeves.
Side note about the flags on the sleeves, THEY FACED THE WRONG WAY! IT DROVE ME NUTS! I mean, they faced so it actualy looked like a flag. That's not how a flag looks on a uniform! It is facing the opposite direction so when in retreat, the flag is still waving strong! GRR THAT WAS FRUSTRATING!
But o, o, there is more but it was great! It was deffiently comparing the Curicible to Bush's terriost spree. It was so political, it was great. I mean, it's the Curicible, it's already one of the most political-parallel type things you can read, but this was the icing on the cake!
I am unbelievably jealous that i didnt get to be apart of or watch that! when we read the acutal play in my Lang class we had a heated debate about the direct parallelisms between Murrow/ McCarthy era and the Bush administration it was an amazing discussion.
But to have a taken as you said one of the most political plays ever written and then to show how times have not improved .... *sigh* that is both couragous and powerful - Those are some very luck actors!

It was a senior thesis and it was so well done and amazing that if that guy keeps up work like that, he could make it big time. I know it's hard to do, but it was that amazing.
What play are you doing? Or is that what you haven't decided yet?
Personaly, I've never been in a play/musical/anything theatrical, but I started enjoying watching them in high school and I've been going to watch alot more of the ones here at siu carbondale. Me, a radio/television major with a possible double major in film, and her, a theatre major, discet the plays. It's a ton of fun! lol
One of my best friends is just like that- people never believe us until they sit down to watch and they literally cant take their eyes off him - its a gift, even we are mezmorized by him. He's going to be huge when he's older.
i still haven't decided what modern character would be the "ulitmate" to play....
But right now at school we're working on starting on Rebel without a Cause (which we are still debating if it's sacrilage to revive that after the movie),and doing Comedy of Errors and King Lear for Competitons and then there is also a musical "Into The Woods" (which maybe a grand total of 6 people have heard of...) and we just finished Oliver!..

Haha, you are in theatre, you don't see the outside unless you are bringing in stuff for the show.
Can't say that I'm too faviliar with any of those, I mean, I've HEARD of them, but am not familar with their story lines.

yah or making a food/starbucks run- but ya know we dont really do well with the whole natural lighting concept- it burns....
and as much as i hate to crush the idea that theatre kids know EVERYTHING about all plays... i have to confess that except for Rebel without a cause, we weren't familar with most of the stuff when we heard of it either - our Director is (how do i put this delicatly) excentric even for theatre people. So we do some really out there stuff.....

So The last performance i just finished, "Into The Woods" i have to say was actually one of my favorite performances ever. First off i learned to get over my singing in front of people thing, and ya know what all i got was genuine complements so im happy. But the show, which combines the tales of Jack (Jack and the BeanStalk) Cinderella, Rapunzel, The Baker and his Wife (the gingerbread man) Little Red Riding Hood, and several other minor stories (snow white and sleeping beauty) all set to music in total broadway fashion. I was the Narrator and ya know- it was probably one of my favorite parts i've ever had (didnt hurt that it was a lead either lol)

oh cool. We did Into the Woods a few seasons back at my community theater. It was really good. I'm so excited because the season officially opens Sunday!
