I'm hoping someone can help me out. At my school, we don't have an AP English Lit. class, but I would like to take the test anyway. Has anyone else done this? Is it recommendable? I am currently in English III College Prep. and I am signed up to take English IV A, which is a duel credit class with the local community college. If it is possible to do well on the exam without taking the class, are they certain things I should be working on this summer? Any advise/comments would be welcome! Thanks in advance!:)

If you're getting dual credit, why do you need to take the AP test?

The colleges I'm looking at will accept the college credit, but only for an elective, not for, say, an English credit. But they will accept the AP credit. So, I'm trying to take a few AP exams, but my school only offers AP Calc and APUSH classes.

Well, I'd go ahead and take the class, but only if you're confident in your analyzing, reading and writing abilities. You should definatly get some review books to help you, but if you do the reading you should be fine. Also, take any practice AP lit test you can get your mits on- at the least it'll give you a basic idea of what you're getting into. Talk to your english teachers and ask their opinions on your ability to take the test (if you can). Did you take the language test this year? If so, wait and see your score before you decide (although you DO have until March to make the final deicsion). Basically, it all depends on your ability as an analyzer and writer, not to mention dedication for the (probabale) extra reading you'll have to do. I wouldn't be able to tell you one way or another if you should, since I haven't read any of your essays, and I find writing ability to be the most accurate judge on how well you'd do on the test. Good luck, though!
