Hello, I have been assigned by my AP US History teacher an assignment that I'm finding some difficulty recovering some of the required information. The assignment on my syllabus reads as follows:
"Develop a chart explaining the financing, motivation for founding, and political, social, and economic organization of each area: (a) the plantation colonies; (b) New England; (c) the middle colonies. Include a definition of "joint stock," "proprietary," and "Royal" or "Charter" colonies, the degree of self government and extent of participation, economic base, laor, opportunities for social and political mobility, education, etc. What elements did all these colonies have in common? What major differences existed? What accounts for the differences?"
Most of the information I've already found such as the financing, motivation for founding, economic base, and education. However, ANY help on any of these issues would be helpful. My answers may be wrong so I'm open for a different thoughts. Thanks in advance!
Ethan
I'm confused...what information do you have, and what info are you looking for?

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," say Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It

Actually i just had a test on these subjects. For starters the definitions.
Joint-Stock Company: a group of investors that brought the right to establish New World plantations from the King
Cjarter: Land grants from enland, i think, don't quote me on that.
Similaries between the colonies
--mostly english
--possessed British freedoms
--self-government (although all weren't democratic)
--religious toleration (at least to some degree)
--educational opportunity
--economic oppertunity and social self-development
--increasingly unique fron the British monarch character
Differences
New England (MA, CT, RI, NH)
-puritian dominated, less religiously tolerant, more restrictions on civic participation, more industry, less available farm land
Middle Colonies (NY, NE, PA, DE)
-ethnically diverse, religiously tolerant, democratic, Quakers contributed to human freedom, farming, lumbering, ship building, ship trade, fur trade
Southern colonies
-plantation economy, aristocratic, slavery, cash crops, scattered population, expansionary, some religious toleration (Church of England dominant)
hope this helps you at least a little

royal colonies r colonies with charters from the king. he put governor's in place to rule in place of him. these colonies r owned by the king (virginia is a good example). proprietary colonies r colonies that were owned by an individual or his family. they were bought basically (pennsylvania being an example. thats all i know from the top of my head. hope it helps
