Any of you guys in the school band? Or play any kind of instrument?

I started learning in the 5th grade on a clarinet. Now I play my trigger trombone during marching season (but it broke, it always does, so now i play the school's old bass trombone) and been playing it for two years.

I have five years experience on the trombone, but I am no longer in our school's band. It's a really long and messy story between band directors, donkeys in the band (yes, I edited myself), and the fact that playing in the band just lost its 'fun' aspect. I do still enjoy playing it though.

I used to play the paiano too, but most of that knowledge has diminished. I can still read both clefs and pluck out the notes for a song.

I was debating joining colorguard just to see the look on Brett's (new band director) face. To see a low brass player, especially a trombonist (we have a HUGE shortage of low brass and in particular trombones) just out of his reach, somehow I think it would be highly amusing.

I have a slightly twisted sense of humour. ;)

lol. How ironic. At my school, there's more waaay brass than woodwinds.
Our colorguard sucks. Seriously.

Oh there is more brass, but they're all high brass (trumpets and french horn)

Our colorguard isn't great either (sans Maria..she's amazing) but they currently have a ton of ballet in their routines, I've been in ballet since I was three (minus last year...ACL recontructive surgery bleh) so you can see why I was considering.

Interesting fact: Brett was the chorus's accompanist before he got hired, hence why I still call him 'Bret' He's also only 24.

Heh. Interesting fact.

No way could our colorguard do ballet. They can't even hold their flags right.. it's a pity. The flagettes do all the dancing instead.

Ouch. -refering to the surgery- How'd it happen?

Wish we had a french horn player.. well, maybe next year. We've got 8 trumpets, 9 trombones, 3 tenor sax, 3 tubas, 1 baritone.

How did you get NINE trombones!? I was one of two, he graduated and I left. They have two now, but one doesn't play and the other one doesn't play what is written.

Field Hockey is murder to your ligaments, what's knida ironic is that it was the first night of ballet that I tore it.

Ballet is kicking my butt right now, when the doctor said I'd lose muscle I didn't realise the muscle I'd lose first was the muscle I had bulit up over thirteen years. It makes me sad.

Awww.. That sucks. All that hard work gone. =[

Well, no one really plays hockey where I live (which is in GA), so I can't say I've been in that predicament. But darn, of all days it had to be that day.

Dunno. We just have a lot of trombones. Last year there was 7. Next year there will be 8. We're pretty good.. But I'm really worried for the freshmen. They sorta suck. They have good intonation, but they can't march well or sightread at all.

Lookit!

Our band just went to two competitions they one First in one and Second in the other. They also scooped up Best Drum Major(s), Best Colorgaurd, Best Auxillary, Best Director, and Best Performance.

This is a huge deal b/c we haven't competed in years. I'm so proud of them ^_^

They all bought buttons that say "What is that football team doing on the BAND field?" I want one....yeah, I still support the band in any way possible, I'm just not in it. ;)

Your poor, poor, future trombonists...hopefully they'll learn how to march. Sightreading is another issue entirely though.

Holy crap. I want that button. xD
I'm in charge of making the t-shirts next year and I want to to say "Football team? Who cares about them?!" (On the back: It's all about the band~)

But anyways, that's sooo awesome. We just went on homecoming day. -.-'' and we were AA so out of the 6 bands, we got 3rd overall. I blame it on the colorguard. Our colorguard SUCKS. They got 6th place out of 6 bands. But our dance team got second place. Just two more points... Overall we got:

Drum Major 1
Percussion 1
Majorette 1
Flaggette/Dance team 1
Colorguard 2
Band 1-1-2

Congrats to your band. Mines could probably learn a thing or two from yours...

It seems to me that a lot of schools complain about their color guard. I thought my school was the only one that sucked. Lol. I play Bari Sax for concert band, but I'm a drum major during marching season. Congrats to your bands! And I want one of those buttons too! We don't have a dance team though. :-( This year, our bands done okay. It's kinda sad to think that my last year of marching band is almost done. We end next week.
