Midterm coming

Ok, so I've asked for help before but this is about a midterm this Friday.
I've failed every quiz/test that I have taken and I don't understand why, but I must pass this midterm exam or my GPA and any chance of passing that class with be gone.

So I would like any tips and help on studying and getting/understanding main points and important facts.

Please and thank you

What I did was read the chapters, outline them, re-read them, then read the outlines here on course-notes.org. There are also practice quizzes online that help. When reading, try speed reading (aka read to get the big picture, then go back and try to pick out the smaller things). And if you can, try creating mnemonic devices. I know my class created on for the 13 colonies.

Lol
Well I'll try these methods, but how do you get your self to read such boring information?

Usually to get myself to read boring information, I have to tell myself over and over before I start that it's super interesting then start reading. I find it also helps me (personal thing - it helps some people, it hinders others) to have music on.

That's the hard part. I remember reading chapters and falling asleep during them- I think once it ended up taking me close to two hours to read one chapter...and I like history.

One thing that you could try is, once you've already read the chapter and taken notes on it, make flashcards. As second-grade as it sounds, it works. I kinda turn it into a game, competing against myself to try to get more and more correct.

The reading? I ended up just forcing myself to do it. Try rewarding yourself when you reach a certain point- like take a break, let yourself doze, listen to music for a while, something like that. It could help you work harder towards the next break.

Music does help. My APUSH book was great for putting the whole class to sleep in about 2 min. Lol. The breaks are a good idea. I know during some really boring chapters (aka most of them) I would take running breaks or ice cream breaks. They do help.

Yeah, I've actually found out that working out (running, or just whatever you want to do) helps me to focus and study harder. So maybe try going for a run before you start studying

ive learned after failing my first test and getting mid 70s on the next two, that you really need to understand the big picture and not the little facts. its how the facts fit into the zeitgeist of the time is what really helps on APUSH tests.

that is what i've learned from my mistakes.

My teacher chooses the questions for the test, so I'm mostly going to review notes from his lectures and powerpoints. Re-reading chapter notes won't hurt though.
