I recieved a DBQ today and I am having trouble writing it. Could someone give me some advice or analyzations of the documents please?
Prompt:
in 1858 Senator William Henry Seward examined the sources of the conflicts between North and South. Some people thought the sectional conflict was "accidental, unnecessary, the work of interested or fanatical agitators, and therefore ephemeral." he believed these people were wrong. The roots of the conflict went far deeper. "It is an irrepressible conflict," Seward declared, "between opposing and enduring forces." using the documents provided plus outside information, analyze the validity of this statement.
Well, first you analyze the documents given. From what you read and saw, write a small paragraph on it so you'll know you understood it.
Then, write a small paragraph on the topic that you already knew.
Look over everything you wrote and figure out which is valid abnd which is opinion. Decide which ones you will use or not use.
By now you should had realized that you already have your whole essay or at least know enough to write an essay.

On the DBQs, try to use as many sources as you can but use as little quotations as possible. If you do quote, keep it short. And when you use sources try to do it without quoting like: "in document B, the political cartoon expresses the nation's exaperation at the president's feeble attempt in the compromise."

I'd like to add, try to use all the documents! On the AP exam, you will be allowed to use all the documents but one without getting points off on the rubric. As stated above, try not to quote large sections of a document, it will give the impression that you are trying to summarize a document, rather than analyze. Don't forget to bring in outside information that relates to the documents, and a lot of it.
