how do i solve this problem
Does a Photon of visible light (400 to 700nm) have sufficient energy to excite an electron in a hydrogen atom from the n=1 to the n05 energy state? From the n=2 to the n+6 energy state?
If someone could explain how to do this it would be a great help.
First you use the equation to find out how much energy it takes for the electron to be moved. Then you use the E = hc/lambda where lambda is the wavelength and find the wavelength of the light that would excite the electron as such. Anything higher than that number is also valid.
