The essay question I have is "Why do you think that the 2 parties disagree (Republican & Democratic parties)?". Can anyone help me on why they disagree on these topics: abortion, civil rights, crime, drugs, education, energy and oil, enviroment, govt. reform, gun control, health care, homeland security, and welfare/poverty? I really just need a general reason why they disagree.
Thanks,
RP

Why do you think they disagree?

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."
"But," say Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It
It's really a principled question about the role of government in people's lives. The Republicans (are supposed to) believe that government should exist to allow you to pursuit happiness and prosperity, the Democrats take more of a protect the people stance believing that if there is a person in need, they should be helped. Basically Republicans believe that the solution to a struggling economy is to lower taxes. Democrats believe that higher taxes should be taken, and then issued back in benefits such as food stamps, more funding for schools, welfare etc.
But it gets more confusing...one may think that the Republicans would therefore allow abortion, because they don't believe it's their job to interfere with your life. But mainly because of strong religious ties to the Republican Party, they are pro-life.
I'm not going to elaborate on more of the differences and exceptions, that should be enough to get you started. But as I once heard it put: It's all about the reading of the preamble of the constitution. Republicans believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, Democrats believe in life, liberty and happiness.
Thanks Cubs fan, great information and great help, I appriciate it.
