Is it this question?

Quote:To what extent did the natural enviroment shape the developmnt of the West beyond the Mississippi and the lives of those who lived and settled there? How important were other factors? Time Period: 1840's to 1890's

Or do you have a different one. If it's different, could you please type exactly what it says so that I can find it more easily?

that's the exact question. and in document b, it says "oregon is a part of the north american continent, to which...the thitle of the United States is the best now is existence. the british proposition of compromise, which would make the columbia river the line south of 49 degrees...and would leave on the british side two-thirds of the whole oregon territory, including the free navigation of the columbia and all the valuable harbors on the pacific, can never for a moment be entertained by the u.s. w/out an abandonment of their just and clear territorial rights, their own self-respect, and the national honor."
^^i have no idea wat Polk is saying here so i dont know how to incorporate it into my dbq. any help??

Oh, okay. That's the manifest destiny stuff - we want all land, and once it's ours, it's OURS and YOU can't have it! But if it is yours, we're going to take it and the that'll be OURS too!!!! mentality. I suppose this is one of those other factors they were talking about.

And if you're interested here are two people who got some help on the same question (or not....):
