A Waste of Time??

Hey guys,
my family has recently been having economic problems, so I was not able to pay for my AP tests. My mom thinks that now that I am not taking both tests, that I have wasted my time in the classes. She does not want me to continue with the AP Program for my senior year. Did I waste my time in the classes this year? I need another opinion, because I really enjoy the program, but I don't know if I should continue with it if I can not take the tests.:confused::confused:

 RUN FREE [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Absolutely. Some colleges may allow you to test out of some classes, making life easier. Further, they will make your application look much better.

think of it this way, since you don't have a chance to get the ap credits from the exam, your going to have to take them in college and if you've already taken the ap class, the college level should be a piece of cake.

I think the AP program has a lot of merit, and I also believe that you should take classes that challenge you - if you switch to regular or honors you may be bored by the pace or difficulty, which usually isn't good. Plus, you can take the class without taking the test, so I don't see why putting you at a lower level in classes would change things. AP classes are also a stepping stone to being prepared for college whether or not you take the test at the end of the year. Just because you don't take the test doesn't mean you don't have to be prepared for it in your class - you still have to keep up with everyone else to get good grades.

I think that's all I can think of...

stick to the classes you like. AP classes really do prepare you. Also look into financial aid for paying for the tests, there is help available.

Yeah, I agree with the above post. Just go talk to your counselor and usually they'll lower the cost significantly, especially if you're on federal programs (like free/reduced lunch). That's how I was able to take my four AP exams. They lowered the cost for me down to $8 an exam. Those are some incredible savings! I love my AP classes; they're worth all the stress and procrastination :) Stick with it! And best of luck!

i took regular global one year instead of AP euro. i hated every minute. the only good thing was the class had almost to homework and gave me a 100 for my report card. it was dumb.

As someone who has just failed my first AP exam (APUSH = 1), I recommend you take the classes. In my opinion (and the opinions of a lot of other people), the exams are NOT a reliable prediction of how you will do in college, or even of your knowledge of the content. Although I got a 1 on the exam, I consistently got 90s in the corresponding class all year. My teacher said that the content was more like what he saw on his Master's exam, and he was the type of student who would have shyed away from AP classes. Despite the wasted exam money, I'm glad I took the class. If you receive a fairly decent grade in the class, it looks great on your transcript.

I would take the classes and look into financial aid. Even without the exams, they are amazing courses .

@Catlover4100-The exams are meant to be the best way to gauge your k
knowledge of the material. If you consistently got 90's, either your teacher was being very easy on you or you didn't prepare well enough for the exam.
