ok, lets say you have a test comming up at the end of the week.
how do you prepare? have you been successful getting A's?

Well, if you're not prepared by within a week of the test, then you have problems.
No really, just go over the material. I mean, it sounds pretty basic, but that's generally all you need. Just don't lose sleep over it (literally) and don't stay up too late the night before.
If I know I have a test coming up, I clear my schedule for the night before the test (like do other classes' hw in advance). Then I reread the chapter(s), review my notes, and make diagrams/extra notes on topics I don't understand. It takes a lot of time, but if you want the A badly enough, it's worth a shot.
Another alternative is to read a section/chapter each day for a couple of days before the test (taking notes/diagrams on stuff you don't know) and then reviewing chapter notes and new notes the day before the test.
I've never gotten a B (all As haha) and I am the biggest procrastinator ever. The key is to know what to study. If you cram the night before, but you know the kind of material that your teacher likes to put on the test, you should be fine. Go over the coursenotes for that chapter, review the key terms, and try to have at least a vague idea of what EVERY person in the chapter did. That way if you see their name on a multiple choice question you won't be totally lost. Also, go over the timeline at the end of the chapter if there is one.
