AP Biology (Cell Organelles)

Terms : Hide Images
-Phospholipid Bilayer: two layers of phospholipids arranged with hydrophilic tails surrounded by hydrophilic heads -Selectively permeable - controls transport into and out of the cell
-Stores genetic info (DNA) -Surrounded by a nuclear enveloped
-Produces ribosomes
-Manufactures proteins (for export or use in cell membrane) -Ribosomes attached -Flattened disks called cisternae -common in endocrine cells, pancreatic and digestive cells
-Makes lipids, phospholipids, and hormones -Breaks down toxins and drugs -Stores calcium ions (Ca2+) -Cisternae -common in testes, ovaries, liver
-Modifies, stores, and transports proteins and lipids for export out of the cell  "post office" -Curved shape (Cis face = receiving; Trans face = shipping) -Cisternae
-Storage of food, water, waste
-Pumps excess water out of the cell
-Transports proteins (small sac for transport)  Think vesicle = vehicle; around
-A vesicle which contains digestion enzymes -Autophagy: cell eats itself -Apoptosis: programmed cell death from bursting lysosomes  Think apoptosis
-Produces proteins for export -Attached to Rough ER
-Produces proteins for export -In cytasol
-Detoxifies alcohol -Breaks down fatty acids -Metabolic compartment bound by a single membrane -Produced H202 as a result of processes -Kidney and liver cells
-ATP by cellular respiration -Exemption to cell theory - can do some things on its own
-Photosynthesis for glucose -Exception to cell theory
-Coordinates separation of chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis
-2 centrioles per centriosome
-Structure, support, protection -Composed of cellulose in plants; chitin in fungi

Need Notes?

While we strive to provide the most comprehensive notes for as many high school textbooks as possible, there are certainly going to be some that we miss. Drop us a note and let us know which textbooks you need. Be sure to include which edition of the textbook you are using! If we see enough demand, we'll do whatever we can to get those notes up on the site for you!
