4914030414Surface terminologyDescribes the landmarks of the body4
4914030415Integumentary systemIs composed of the skin & associated with functions. Protecting the body against mechanical, bacterial, and chemical damage. It's water resistant that prevents dehydration of the body. Control the body temperature. Relays the info on touch, pressure, pain & temp to the central nervous R system.5
4914085838EpidermisComposed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium.6
4914085839DermisUnderlying connective tissue. Contains two layers: papillary and reticular7
4914085840Papillary LayerComposed of are okay connective tissue. Dense layer8
4914085841Reticular layerDense, irregular connective tissue. Major vessels servicing the integument as well as hair follicles and glands.9
4914112264HypodermisThe subcutaneous layer of the superficial fascia. Composed of are plat connective tissue and adipose tissue. Serves to attach the integument to the underlying structures- muscles.10
4914112265Glands2 categories: sebaceous and sudoriferois11
4914173059Sebaceous GlandsLocated everywhere except for the palms and soles. Ducts from the glands empty onto the epidermal surface and onto hair roots. The secretions serves to lubricate the skin surface & keep the hair pliable.12
4914173060Sudoriferous GlandsMerocrine glands are all over the body & empty onto the epidermal surface. Composed of mostly salt and water. Produce perspiration that helps cool the body down while the temp rises. Apocrine glands are located in the Axillae and genial areas. Thick secretion that is rich in proteins and fats deposited into hair follicles. Function is unclear, but in other animals functions as chemical signals.13
4914173061HairFound all over the body except palms, soles, and lips. Composed of root, shaft.14
4914222705Hair rootResides in the integument15
4914222706Hair shaftProjects above the epidermal surface16
4914222707Cell cycleIncludes interphase and mitosis17
4914222708MistosisCell division. Most cells reproduce. Not all cells are capable of undergoing mitosis most of them periodically divide, providing tissues with a means of growth and repair.18
4914222709InterphaseCells that do not undergo Mitosis are said to be in this phase. A cell performs all of its day to day functions, when necessary prepares for mitosis.19
4914222710G1 PhaseCell begins to replicate it's centriole.20
