An author's choice of words, including their arrangement, and the force, accuracy, and distinction with which they are used
Language that obeys all standard conventions for speech; avoids vague, irregular phrasing.
Conversational language that may use more relaxed standards for precise word choice, grammar, or sentence structure
Word choice that specifically (and intentionally) violates rules of grammar, taste, refinement, and ordinarily accepted definitions or spellings of words
Language deficient in taste and refinement; coarse or base
vernacular language sometimes humorous, exaggerated, or shortened for effect
Regional language differing in usage, connotation, pronunciation
Language specific to a field or profession
Figurative language used so often it has lost its freshness and clarity
