Ruthless, cruel, and unrelenting acts
the state of being kept down by unjust use of force or authority: "after years of oppression they finally revolted"
freedom of choice, the right to liberty is considerd an unalterable aspect of the human condition. The right to liberty includes personal freedom:
Religious narratives and songs by blacks often times showing praise
rising up and fighting using weapons
Ready to fight, especially for a cause
devotion to the interests or culture of a particular nation including promoting the interests of one country over those of others
Something that is carried, especially a heavy load (can be literal or figurative)
a movement or series of moves requiring skill and care
a peaceful way of protesting against restrictive racial policies
An area in New York City where black pride was strong, and leaders like Langston Hughes were born; also an area where art and music flourished in the 1920's
Citizens must provide the basic necessities of life for themselves and their families. Free citizens- do not depend on others for basic needs, strong citizenry enjoys true liberty, govt would have to be huge if citizens had to rely on them
