A war fought between the French and the English over New World territory. This war was the basis for the Seven Years' war, a huge world-wide war.
A rebellion led by the Ottawa Indian chief Pontiacin 1763. The rebellion was an attempt to drive the British our of the Ohio valley. The event helped convince the British that they needed to stabilize the relations between the Indians and the whites.
A military power made up of five different Indian nations: the Oneidas, the Onondagas, the Mohawks, the Cayugas, and the Senecas. They were one of the few groups that were able to contain the British settlement east of the Appalachian mountains.
Legislation issued by the British government in 1763, prohbiting settlement west of the Appalachians. Though it was designed to solve the Indian problem and prevent another rebellion like Pontiac's, it only caused more ill will towards British rule.
A British leader in the colonies during the 1760s whose actions against the French led to Britain's becoming the dominant power in North America.
An early attempt at forming a union of the colonies during the French and Indian War, written by Benjamin Franklin, though it was rejected by conservative Loyalists.
