double or multiple meaning
an event, object, custom, person, or thing that is out of its natural order in time
a comparison of similar things, often for the purpose of using something familiar to explain something unfamiliar
a metrical foot consisting of three syllables: two unaccented syllables followed by one accented syllable, as in interfere
a rhetorical term for the inversion of the normal order of the parts of a sentence
a brief narrative of an entertaining and presumably true incident
usually, the character in fiction or drama who stands in direct opposition to or in conflict with the central character
a central character, or protagonist, who lacks traditional heroic qualities and virtues (such as idealism, courage, or steadfastness)
verbal irony, in which what is said contrasts sharply with what is actual meant
statement of the opposing viewpoint or comparing something
