takes all the fun out of reading

i love reading, i love books, but AP English destroys that. Instead of talking about interesting characters and what we like, we instead talk about everything that is boring and are told that we dont read well enough
i miss my old english classes where we discussed the books rather than the structure

I sympathize with you. I love dissecting essays and short stories, but when it comes to chapter books, just no. It ruins the magic.

At least in AP literature, you're not told you don't read well enough, like you are in AP English, where everything only has this one specific meaning. Bleh.

Wish I could tell ya it gets better, but it seems like it's just one of those things we gotta deal with.

Don't let it ruin books for you, just remember that you can read on your own time too. And can tell those teachers to bug off in your head. that helps a lot. :D

LOL. The teacher that teaches AP ENG at my school is a jerk. I have had him for journalism, but I opted out of AP ENG this year thankfully. I would rather be able to read whatever I want then be forced to read boring stuff that would be covered on an AP test -____-

True, but I find dissecting the dry boring stuff fun. Livens up the blah. :P

i like the reading lists. they show me alot of books i would not otherwise read. i have always been of the oppinion that interpreting is just BS. when i do what i think is a good job i get bad grades but when i make up stuff that just sounds stupid to me, my teachers love it.

by the way, rockdude, i love your signature. it is to often that i hear people complaining about how they don't like this or that with out being thankful for what America offers or trying to do something to make a change. i always tell people to be the change you want to see. (i don't think that i made that up but you can quote me anyways :) )

all in all, it's just another brick in the wall...

I took: AP US Hist, AP Stats, AP Chem

i love reading but with all the books i have to read for school i hardly have time to read for enjoyment at all. i have read some good books for school, but i hate when teachers act like there's only one meaning to everything and they know exactly what the author was trying to say.

However structure sometimes can reveal some new details to the story as well as the analysis of some symbols.
