Stem Cell Research

what are your thoughts/opinions on it?

How could one such as myself answer such a question without so much as a second glance?

When many people think of stem cell research, they instantly think of embryonic stem cell research. This is the type of stem cell research that can be considered to be killing innocent lives because the embryo would develop into a baby. However, there are other types, such as umbilical blood and adult stem cells, which can prove to have the same potential as embryonic stem cells, but with cells that won't develop into a baby.

ok but whats your opinion on the issue of aborted fetus stem cells?

Most tissues in complex metazoans contain a rare subset of cells that, at the single-cell level, can self-renew and also give rise to mature daughter cells. Such stem cells likely in development build tissues and are retained in adult life to regenerate them. Cancers and leukemias are apparently not an exception: rare leukemia stem cells and cancer stem cells have been isolated that contain all of the tumorigenicity of the whole tumor, and it is their properties that will guide future therapies.

I believe that stem cells should be used but only to the extent that the cells are not from aborted fetuses'. I know that is not a popular opinion but i do not believe in abortion. I understand that there are circumstances where some believe that abortion is the only viable option but I do not. Children do not have a choice about the way they were conceived. Even so, I know that stem cells save lives and I hope and pray that I am never in a position to need that kind of treatment and find that it is not available or only available from an aborted child. What an awful decision to have to make.

Definitely an awful decision to make. There are definitely things that we can learn from stem cell research, but as Donnapeek said, I don't believe that aborted fetuses is the way we should be conducting the research.

For the possibility of creating a new limb I feel its great idea howevr there are issues to look at.

If the limb, organ ect was lost due to an accident there would really be no concern. If its lost due to disease would one not have to precluse that the same organ or limb ect in time would once again suffer than same loss?
