Hey everyone i'm new and i need some help, well we're doin' this debate and i'm defendin' the statement that the abolition of slavery preserved the union. Does anyone hav any thin' to defend my point? thanx

you could argue that the emancipation proclamation made by lincoln dealt a huge blow to the south's economic standpoint and also remember that the european powers were discouraged from intervening since their own citizens hated slavery, thus, by freeing the slaves, Lincoln was able to add a moral issue to the fight against the confederacy. acknowledge that the soldiers who abandoned the army after the emancipation proclamation were a price lincoln was willing to pay in order to win the war against the south

thanks thatz helpful but would u say that lincoln was a but more concerned w/ other issues than the abandonment of the soldiers

Of Course Especially With Keeping The Border States In Check Through The Elimination Of Habeas Corpus And The Implementation Of Martial Law In Some Of Those States To Prevent Revolts
