Hello,
Can anybody tell me the name of the process in which a cell explodes due to an excess of H2O? I can't remember the exact term, but I believe it begins with "hypo."
Thanks.

it's called "lysing". "lyse" means to burst, or to break. it due to a cell being in an HYPOtonic environment, in which the area surrounding the cell has less solute concentration than inside the cell itself. water always from from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration, which is inside the cell. when the cell takes in too much water it will burst, or lyse.
Thanks for your help.
