Hey guys, well, as the title reads, I'm currently a Freshman. I am taking all honors classes, and AP History. Here's my question:
Since I'm only a Freshman with Biology Honors, would I be able to take AP Chem. without taking Chemistry first?
I tried asking at the school, my teacher says yes, but other people say no. I'm pretty confused, if anyone could please let me know, thank you.
i personally took honors chem and AP, and without honors chem i would have been completely lost and confused. in honors you will learn the basics of chemistry, like balancing reactions, naming compounds, stoichimetry, etc. it could of course be done but it would be extrmely difficult. in my school you have to take the regular or honors course before you can take the AP.
best of luck.

True, I completely agree with you and appreciate you taking the time to reply, however, I also want to try. In my school, everyone says that the class itself is extremely hard to pass, but nearly everyone acquires a 5 on the AP test. Ironic, huh? Well, I think aslong as I have a few friends by my side, I won't be do it so bad, and in my Bio Honors class, we do a little background on Chemistry, but I'm not sure. My teacher says I should take it, because I'm one of her top students, but then again...
if you do decide to take AP, definately sit in on some chemistry review classes and try to teach yourself some chemistry. focus on naming compounds, balancing reactions, moles, stoichmetry, etc. if you are as good of a student as you say you are, some independent study this summer and you should be fine. but definately speak to the current AP chem teacher first, see their opinion on the subject. and if self study has left you confused, check to make sure you can always change to regular chemistry.

Yes, I always study in the Summer for some foundation of the classes I'll take. And thank you, I'll make sure to focus on it, and thank you.
I don't suggest taking Chem AP without taking Chem 1 Honors first. There are two girls in my Chem AP class who are sophomores and skipped Chem 1 and they are failing, and the grades in our class are based only on labs and tests. Also, Eddy, the Chem AP test is extremely difficult and not many people get a 5. I don't know if you go to a super-genius school, but the only two kids who got 5s on the test last year at my school are incredibly smart (meaning 2320 on SAT and 800 on Chem Subject SAT smart); the majority received 3s. I respect the fact that you may be fairly intelligent, but I suggest you swallow your pride and take Chem 1.
Definitely take Chem1. A lot of AP Chem stuff builds off of the easy types of gas law/stoichiometry/thermodynamics/equilibrium you do. It all builds up and involves greater coverage of the topics you may have brifely covered in Chem I. Everyone getting 5's on the test??? L O L. The AP Chem test has the highest fail rate, and only like 4% of the nation gets a 5. Next time, study up before posting wildly wrong figures.

Sorry, but you're also forgetting that out of that 4%, I could be part of it. Additionally, Mr.Musako is one of the TOP 5 teachers in the nation, yes, I was shocked myself. I mean, TOP 5, that's pretty darn impressive and I hear alot of his students get 4's or 5's. But thank you for your comments anyhow, L O L.
Then you are underestimating the test. No AP test is easy enough for everyone in one class to score a 4 or 5. Even at my school, my AP Lit teacher is priobably one of the best and there are still a few who get 3's and even below 3's on the AP Lit test. Chem is the same way, even with a good teacher, lots of people get "hard-headed" so to speak and think the test is a pushover. But the answer to your original question.. take Honors first if it is available in your school.
