This is a hard problem...

Mercury and bromine will react with each other to produce mercury(II) bromide.
Hg(l) + Br2(l) HgBr2(s)

(a) What mass of HgBr2 can be produced from the reaction of 10.15 g Hg and 8.89 g Br2?

What mass of reagent is left unreacted?

Which reagent is in excess?

Br2 or Hg

(b) What mass of HgBr2 can be produced from the reaction of 6.95 mL mercury (density = 13.6 g/mL) and 6.95 mL bromine (density = 3.10 g/mL)?

help me...T.T:eek:

Ah, stoicheometry. This may take awhile....

I'll come back later...

For the first, I think you have to calculate which element is the limiting reactant, then use that in your stoich. equation. Divide the amount of LR used in the reaction by its molar mass, then multiply by the mole/mole ratio (multiply by # of moles of LR, divide by # moles of HgBr2), then multiply by the molar mass of HgBr2. I think the initial LR calculation should tell you how much of the excess reactent is left, and if you find the LR, you will know which is in excess. And for the last one, use the density of the liquid to convert the mL into grams, and do the stoich. equation from there. Have fun!

That sounds right. I'd write it all out for you rlaanrndghk, but everything kinda came down on me and I've been super busy. But xenahorse does a good job too.:D

Thank you! Now that my class is over, I finally remember how to do everything!
