I don't think it was from Candide, because I just read that. It is an interesting quote, I don't happen to agree with it, but it makes you think.

I'd hoped not; I read it last year and I don't remember being forced to analyze it until it died... but it definitely sounds like Voltaire's style... sarcastic and innocent at the same time.

I subscribed to this "quote of the day" feed on my google desktop...and that was one of the random quotes that came up.

PS: I want to go to UC...so the not having to take History again is fine with me. But then I already have Psych credit for UC, so they might not take the History and actually count it for anything, in which case I'll have to take Western Civ. :(
