1989 DBQ Help

For our midterm which is tomorrow we have to write a DBQ. We actually found out what the question is because he hinted towards the topic and said it was from a past AP test.

The Questions is:
Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois offered different strategies for dealing with the problems of poverty and discrimination faced by Black Americans at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries.
Using the documents and your knowledge of the period 1877-1915, assess the appropriateness of each of these strategies in the historical context in which each was developed.

The documents can be found at: http://www.gprep.org/fac/sjochs/btwdbq.htm

I was wondering if anybody had done this before and for a little help getting started. If you can just guide me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.

Well, no one has asked about it on this site yet. I'm almost positive I've seen it before though. It's sooooo familiar and yet....

Well, I'll check my stuff and get back with you tonight at any rate.

Document Based Question
Intro
After Reconstruction, the status of the African American increased little in that time frame. Some blacks were starting to accept their situation but two African American leaders were not. W.E.B Dubois and Booker T. Washington saw that the situation of poverty and social inequality was what was bringing down their race in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Both coming from completely different backgrounds, one rich and one a former slave, but they had the same purpose. The saught equality in the American society for African Americans however Booker T. Washington was more for slow integration into society and working your way up as Dubois wanted immediate equality which he thought the blacks deserved. The two speakers would help to change the situation for their fellow African Americans

I can always help with intro paragraphs. You have a few spelling errors and awkward sentences, but other than that it's good. Here's how I'd rewrite it:

The status of the African-American increased little after Reconstruction. Some blacks were starting to accept their situation but two African American leaders did not. W.E.B Dubois and Booker T. Washington saw that the situation of poverty and social inequality were bringing down their race in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They came from completely different backgrounds, one rich and one a former slave, but they had the same purpose: they sought equality in the American society for African-Americans. Washington was more for slow integration into society and working your way up where as Dubois wanted immediate equality, which he thought the blacks deserved. Despite their differences two speakers would help to change the situation for their fellow African Americans from 1877 to 1915.

This has been like the first block of free time I've had all day and I'm about to fall asleep, so I don't have any info nor do I have the time to look stuff up. But if you post what you have I can check it over for you and add to it if I can. Plus then other people with the same question can benefit from your input.

Good Luck :o
