Abolitionist Movement and Women's Rights Essay

The essay prompt is "The abolitionist movement was both a catalyst and a hindrance for the women's rights movement." How in the world are these two topics related? I just need a start.

might wanta talk about the 2nd great awakening. it appealed to middle class white women and incouraged them to challenge society. they started getting into temperance movements, abolitionism, and womens rights. many of those who rallied behind the abolitionist cause were women. basically as women became more involved in social reforms, they started looking toward reforming womens roles in society. they got pretty far with influential persons like susan b. anthony, dr. blackwell, sojourner truth, etc. but this issue was largely ignored because of the abolitionist movement.

this is easy. The abolitionist movement lead to women participating in the political aspects of society. Women learned to speak out for themselves and found many similarities between themselves and the slaves. The abolitionist movement basically provided the foundation of the women rights movement. However the system also bound the women inside it without much maneuvering room. I dunno, i cant remember right now.

They sympathized with the plight of their fellow bondsmen of sorts, the blacks. Try looking into the Fifteenth Amendment's wording and the response of women's rightists.

If you look at the names of the women helping free the slaves *cough Susan B. cough* and others you will notice that there's a lot of repeated names.
Women pushed for their rights.. stopped to help end slavery.. then after teh civil war they pushed for their rights again.
May be helpful-
