american revolution essay

my essay topic is :

The American Revolution was NOT a revolution. Defend or Refute.

I pretty much think im going to defend that statement..and I have the basic idea of what im going to write..basically there were no major social changes...i just need details as to why it wouldnt be classified as a real revolution?
any ideas are appreciated. thanks!

I know that in our class we talked about how it was an evolution, not a revolution, but I don't remember why....

the american revolution was an evolution rather than a revolution. it took many years for compounding actions to force the colonies into action. an evolution is a change over a long period of time, in this case, colonial opinion of the parlimentary rule and the king; a revolution is a sudden change. while for many people, their change in opinion was sudden after the war broke out, the american revolution is an evolution because the war was started through years of evolution.
