AP US help needed!

there is one question that i am having trouble with in my summer work...if anyone could help me answer it i'd be more than greatful.

Explain how each major geographic location influenced the political foundations of the United States.

Well, you have to consider that there were 13 colonies. Right now, it takes about...what...3 days maybe to drive from georgia to new york (complete guess). Well when they all came together to form one new country, think about how long it would take to get things places using ships without motors or horses and carraiges. It would be kinda hard to get stuff done quickly right...

1) What are the major places?
2) Find where they're at.
3) Imagine the distances without the technology of today
4) What problems arose because of the distances?
-- what disputes? rebellions? governors? how people governed near and far from the major places .. think about it all
