I'm working on my paper for APUSH, and I could use a little help. I need to explain the circumstances which created the United Nations. I was wondering if I missed any large ones, or if anyone knows of any that I didn't think of. Here's what I have so far:
*the world was largely in ruins, so a central body was needed to help rebuild after WWII
*a central body was needed to help restore peace and the balance of power in Europe
*the need for an international "watch dog"
*an international body was needed to help settle international disputes among nations
*with the introduction of the atomic bombs at the end of WWII, there needed to be a "conference table" where counties would hopefully talk and not use atomic weapons

It's a little repetitive but you covered the basic points.
Tip: When you are writing this paper, pretend you are explaining to someone completely ignorant of this event, exactly what the U.N. is and why it was created. Be sure to go in-depth as to why such a body was needed (aka the events leading up to it).
Hope this helped! :)

i think you should put a little about the League of Nations and Wilson's idealism in your intro or beginning few paragraphs since the UN was very much based on idealism (FDR was also an idealist). Remember to include the true reason USSR joined( so they could veto anything they didn't like) and i think your on your way to a great paper =D
Okay. I hadn't thought about the USSR joining just to veto what they didn't like. Thanks!
