Wage Slavery I think is probably an economic reason. I'm not really up on my slavery info though, so forgive my short response. Umm, religious I'm pretty sure they argued that slavery was in the Bible. Legal, I think their arguement was that it wasn't directly mentioned in the constitution. That or that they considered slaves as property and that the government had no right to take property. I'm pretty sure it's the latter. Dred Scott v. Sanford I think can be used here. but like I said, I'm not entirely sure.

thank you!
Think about this:
Most if not all of the big players in the founding of our country (Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, Madison, etc.) had slaves yet proclaimed freedom and equality in their words and actions. Slavery allowed this men time to start and sustain a revolution because they themselves did not have to do the manual labor jobs that were required of that day. They had the slaves do that. Slavery also allowed them to be away from home for long of time beause there was enough workers to take care of the family estate.
its really good trust me

Religious-biblical references that sanctioned slavery and particularly the enslaving of the black race
Economic-wage slavery

Looks right to me. I think that the people who already posted finished this essay a while ago, so I'm not sure how much input you can get from them.
