Reasons why it started:
Because of population growth in North American colonies, Britain was looking for a way to expand their territories. To there west, they found the Appalachian Mountains and Indians. Northwest, they found the French (St.Lawrence River colonies). Governor Dinwiddie of Virginia decided to set up the Ohio Company which was form establishments along the Ohio River Valley. The Iriqouis were traditionnally the settlers of those lands As conflict arose, the British called an intercolonial meeting in Albany, NY. This is where Benjamin Franklin voiced his Albany Plan (essentially that the colonist should unite together as one force in any conflict against the French or Indians). His plan never materialized (but it was one of the first concepts of colonial unity). French sent military to destroy Fort Duquesne in the Ohio River Valley. Governor Dinwiddie sent British troops, under the direction of George Washinton. July 1754, Washington and troops seized by French but let go. British and Virginians demanded war against French. Henry Pelham (British Prime Minister) did not want another war after Austrian Succession. Eventually, William Pitt and Halifax persuaded him to agree to war.
June 1755: British capture Fort Beausejour in N.S./Acadia
July 1755: British, under direction of Braddock, march on Fort Duquesne: suffer defeat
1756: French and Indian War spread to the Old World [aka: The Seven Years' War]
1758: British forced French to abandon Fort Duquesne [renamed Fort Pitt]
1759: British capture Quebec [TURNING POINT IN THE WAR!!!] Quebec was the heart of the French colonial empire
1760: British capture Montreal (Conquest of Canada Complete)
Look up Pontiac's Uprising...
P's Uprising evenutally led to Proclamation Line of 1763, which served as a temporary territorial boundary line that prevented Anglo-Americans from settling west of the Applachians, in Indian territories.
Treaty of Paris: (#1)
ended French and Indian War / Seven Years' War
confirmed British victory
granted Britain: over half of North America--French Canada, French territory east if the MS River, and Spanish Florida
Britain returned Cuba and Philipines to Spain
FRENCH KICKED OFF NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT!
**Hope this will help you...It isn't everything just some basics and it lacks the European aspect (aka: The Seven Years' War)...
thank you so much that really helped :)
