Great Society-Vietnam War question

Great Society-Vietnam War question

In my APUSH class we get FRQ's and DBQ's in the format of the actual AP as in-class essays, and we have however long is recommended for each to write them. Anyway, the DBQ I got today was something along these lines:

"Lyndon B. Johnson's Great Society program's gains outweigh the negatives of Vietnam."
Assess the validity of the statement.

I was just wondering how one could best organize a response to that, because I found it quite difficult despite having a vast knowledge of both the Great Society and the Vietnam War.
