help!

ok, so we're supposed to pick a book to read and write a paper about it. It has to be nonfiction, about U.S. history (obviously), and about something or someone in the 1900's. If anyone has any ideas, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, it should be at least 300 pages. Thanks!!

What I try to do is pick someone that everybody hates...it ends up being pretty interesting...what about Hitler? Or the Stock Market Crash? Or the invention of the Internet? something like that...find something that isn't really normal and you may actually have fun with it! :)

thanks for the suggestions. :)
My teacher sort of discouraged biographies though.
So i'm still looking and just trying to choose something that won't bore me out of my mind, so i can maybe actually finish it.

I can't remember if it was the 1900's (It may have been the really really 1900's) but the Jungle by Upton Sinclare was good.
