When creating an introduction, first introduce the theme of your paper in the first 1-2 sentences. You could say something along the lines of, " During the 1820's and 1830's, a time of great political activeness, Jacksonian Democrats rose to power, who viewed themselves as protectors of America's underlining values such as political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic oppurtunity." Then after giving an overall theme of your paper, present your thesis. An example could be, " Despite any contrary belief, the Jacksonian Democrats were in fact, pprotectors of American democracy, equality, and liberty." A thesis that supports an opposing view could go " The Jacksonian belief of themselves is completely untrue, as they did not protect the freedom, liberties, and equality of the American people".

These are just a few examples, which are quite bland, but they are a basis of what an intro should include.
