Did you want us to argue the point that the U.S. would not have gotten involved in World War II if Japan did not provoke the U.S.? Or do you just want an argument in general?
Because, I believe it's safe to say that the U.S. involvement in World War II was almost inevitable. WWII was considered the "Great War". We fought for a cause (against Nazi Germany). Had the U.S. not gotten involved in World War II, Germany may have ultimately won. Although the attack on Pearl Harbor was an important turning, there are other causes/reasons we must take into consideration.
