so ive just been looking over chapter 16 thru 18 on american pageant 12th edition...its the years that lead up to the civil war
if i'm not mistaken,
before the civil war, both north and south was in the UNION?
except that the north and south had their own *kind of* distinctive stance on slavery, other issues, and political parties? (i.e. republican-- north, democratic--south)
and then...right after lincoln was elected, the south formed confedracy?
please help yourself to criticize my vast empty knowledge of APUSH :p
seriously, any help is really appreciated...i've a long way to catch up to rest of the students in my class!

Remember, dbgt23, the partys in history aren't close to being the same to the ones of today. Sometime back, after the CW, I think, the definitions of being a republican or democrat switched compleatly around-i.e. democrats today would have been republicans in the post-CW times (I'm pretty sure about this, but if I've got it wrong, someone please correct me!)
imkonadian88, I'm sorry but I'm no good at this topic-I just took my unit 4 test in APUSH (chapters 10-16), and we'll be starting on the pre-CW era on Tuesday. Sorry!

Yes, all that info is correct imkonadian88, and yours too xenahorse. The stance of the different political parties changed after the civil war. I'm fuzzy on the time period, but it was after the Civil War I'm sure.
