Mexican War and Slavery

Can someone kindly assist me with this DBQ?

"The opponents of the annexation of Texas and the Mexican War attacked slavery as the root cause of expansion, but in fact it was no more important than other causes."

Access the validity of this statement.

I'm thinking of agreeing with this statement for these reasons:
- Manifest Destiny
- Desire to gain entrance to the Pacific

Is there anything else I can add?

Thanks!!!
