I'm having trouble figuring out where the Missouri Compromise came from, and what it's effects were. My book doesn't do that good of a job explaining it, and I'm really confuzzled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Missouri Compromise...
let's see...
Missouri Compromise of 1820
-In 1819 there are 11 free states and 11 slave states
-Missouri applies for statehood as a slave state
-big problem...states...(free vs. slave) is not equal
-Tallmadge amendment included saying -would ban importation of slaves and free the children of current slaves...
-Tallmadge amendment defeated in Senate
-Henry Clay proposes that -Missouri enters union as slave state
-Maine (used to be part of Maryland?) enters as a free state
-line at 36, 30' across Louisiana Purchase = slavery banned above the line and allowed below....
Thanks! That helps a lot.
used to be a part of massachusetts**
thanks for the correction...
