please if anyone could take the time to help me maybe with my thesis and just some ideas on what to write about for this DBQ.
Heres the question. President FDR is commonly though of as liberal and Hoover is thought of as a conservative. To what extent are the characterizations valid?
I totally agree with the statement and its not that I really need help with a thesis but I just cant piece together any information to support the fact that FDR is liberal and Hoover conservative. If anyone has any thoughts that could help it would be great. Thanks for your time...
Where are you located? I may be able to help you. :)
try that hoover did not want to bring up many changes in the system but wanted to let the country recover by tiself whereas as rossevelt had many programs manily reform s which show his liberla side like the social securtiy and other reforms read about it in the book he had like 10 differnt reforms taht would defintly suport that rooselvelt was a liberal
hoover is kinda hard but write that he wanted no change and wanted to let the economy recover by itself that shows conservative view
he had some programs also anylze them maybe youll see its conservativism
dude hope that helps
2. The first two years, 1932-33, of the New Deal differed from the New Deal after 1934 because the first two years was more concentrated on recovery and relief, whereas, after 1934, the New Deal was about reform programs. Two of FDR’s programs, in the first two years, were the Emergency Banking Relief Act and Glass-Steagall Act. These acts let banks recover from its losses through government help. The Emergency Banking Relief Act gave funding to banks so that they can reopen once gain. The Glass-Stealgall Act allowed banks to reopen and gave the president the power to regulate transactions and foreign exchange. The Federal Emergency Relief Act and FERA were intended for immediate relief in the first two years of the New Deal. The Civilian Conservation Corps was another one of FDR’s programs that was created during the first two years of his New Deal’s recovery part. This helped create over 3 million jobs for single men in the areas of reforestation, fire fighting, flood control, and swamp drainage. After 1934, the New Deal included reform programs. The Social Security Act of 1935 was passed. This aided the elderly, disabled and mothers. The National Recovery Administration sought to help industry labor and the unemployed. This helped create minimum wages and maximum work hours. The Fair Labor Standards Act, as a part of reform, also helped in creating a minimum wage and a minimum age for working.
However, it's worth mentioning that Hoover also instituted some reforms of his own at the very end of his presidency that were unheard of - they were super-liberal for their day. I forget the two Acts, but they were scandalous to the Old Guard Republicans and helped ease the country into FDR's New Deal.
If you want to throw out more vocabulary, refer to the beginnings of the New Deal as the Hundred Days Congress. These guys were called into special session by FDR, and passed many of the immediate relief acts of this time period.
