need help with debate

I have the social defense aspects for the following debate statement:
the great american revolution for democracy was, in actuality a coup of a group of upper class colonial men to rest political and econimc control awy from britain for the beneift of themselves.
I am having trouble researching information to back up this statement.
Please help me!!:confused: :eek:
