Need some info on the gold rush

K my teacher busted out this dang gold rush project. we have to pretend to be an eastern reporter talking about the gold rush. i dont really know anything about it other than i think it wus in the early 1850's??? and that most people didnt hit the big bucks....Some info on this topic would be really really helpful. thanks and hope u can help and i can help u some time! :D

Most of the people who were seeking gold were lawless men. With this came a lot of crime such as robbery, murder, and stealing others' claims. Because of this crime, vigilante justice started. I believe the Gold Rush began when gold was found at Sutter's Mill, but you may want to double-check that fact. Hope some of this helps you. : )

All I know is that most people didn't get much gold and spent so much to try and find some. My class didn't really go over it, it was more of a "it happened, and that's all you need to know" kinda thing.
