Patronage and the Gilded Age:: DBQ

So this papers due friday, and tomorrow i got a game so i wont be back till late.. heres the question.

How did the spoils and patronage system shape Gilded Age politics? Was its partial modification by civil service a victory for democracy? why or why not? did the spoils and patronage system contribute to teh notion that there was not much of a difference between the two parties? Explain.

Any help/ideas/comments are appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance! :)
