How did the Second Great Awakening influence the reform movements of the nineteenth century? How did these reform movements socially re-shape the United States and allow for growing sectionalism?
I know that by the end of the 18th century, many educated Americans no longer professed traditional Christian beliefs. In reaction to the secularism of the age, a religious revival spread westward in the first half of the 19th century, and the second great awakening was also one of the influences on the Holiness movement!!
Any input?? thanks a bunch. ;)
people were becoming more open to equality for everyone including the insane, jailed, prostitutes,,,,... etc. so they began the reform movement including people who wanted to help those in jail; instead of a punishment jail would be a rehab. And ppl, like Dorothey Dix helped with the mentally ill, etc.
all b/c the 2nd gr. awak. taught the whole "we are all children of god" or whatever...
